Together with Defence prime Lockheed Martin, Axiom Precision Manufacturing helped deliver on the SEA1000 Demonstration Structure; part of a Submarine project that was the largest defence capital investment program in Australia’s history.  

THE PROJECT

Lockheed Martin approached Axiom to solve the issues occurring with the Demonstration Console for the Future Submarine Program. The large, precision tolerance fabrication would shift drastically during the welding process, resulting in the fabricated assembly moving out of acceptable tolerances.

The Axiom team addressed this issue utilising their 3-metre Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), by inspecting the assembly multiple times during the fabrication process and adjusting the unit to bring it back into tolerance. This measuring capability enables Axiom to inspect small and large complex parts to fine tolerances, ensuring components and assemblies Axiom manufacture meet customer requirements.
